Special issues are an important component of the Journal of Liberty and International Affairs (JLIA). They address more focused topics of high current interest that fall within the scope of the journal.

The special issues are managed in the same manner as the regular issues by our permanent editorial board. The Guest Editors for the special issue submit all received articles to JLIA for processing. Our permanent editorial board assigns the peer reviewers and further processes the articles. The editorial and review process for the special issues is as rigorous as for the regular issues. Subsequently, JLIA's panel of peer-reviewers will conduct a thorough evaluation, leading to decisions on acceptance, rejection, or conditional acceptance pending revisions. The responsibility of the Guest Editors for a special issue is limited to an ethical and fair initial editorial screening for conformance with the JLIA’s article guidelines and publishing standards.

Potential Guest Editor/s should submit a proposal to the journal, containing the following:

  • A suggested title for the special issue (max. 15 words).
  • Name, affiliation, short bio, and email of the Guest Editor/s.
  • Proposed summary, aims and scope, giving an overview of the special issue’s intended focus and a list of the topics to be covered. Special issues should be focused on a specific research topic, conference, or closely related area of research.
  • A long abstract (1800 words) of the introductory essay.
  • A draft of the Call for Papers that will solicit articles for the special issue.
  • Expected date of submission of the complete set of articles to the journal.
  • A publication fee will be charged for each article.
  • To ensure timely publication, please discuss your proposal with us at least five months in advance.

The special issue is activated following the acceptance of the Guest Editors' proposed articles by JLIA editors and reviewers and the signing of the Agreement on the Publication of a Special Issue in the Journal of Liberty and International Affairs, which delineates all rights and obligations of the involved parties. A special issue may not exceed 10 published articles.
