The Institute for Research and European Studies (IRES) is a self-supporting and non-profit organization. The publisher and the journal do not publish any advertisements. The publication fee is required to meet Journal of Liberty and International Affairs' operating costs, such as editorial support (including article manuscript tracking, communications, submission guideline checks, and communications with authors and reviewers), layout and typesetting, third-party software (e.g., plagiarism checker), review management, proofreading, archiving and submission of the content to numerous abstracts, directories, and indexes, editorial and administrative costs with unlimited space for figures, and extensive data, online hosting, and promotional support and activities including metadata distribution, press releases, web content, brochures, etc. for the journal and its published contents. Being an open-access publisher, IRES does not receive payment for subscriptions as JLIA is freely accessible over the internet. All articles submitted to JLIA are assumed to be submitted under the fee-based open-access publishing model. Authors, their institutions, or their funders are responsible for covering a publication fee for each open-access article published in this journal. Due to the large number of submissions and the rising costs of operations, we have decided to raise the publication fee for authors. Therefore, if the article is accepted for publication, authors will be asked to pay 300 EUR or its USD equivalent as an article publication fee to defray the operating costs. For articles exceeding 8000 words, there is a fee of 98 EUR per additional 1000 words, with a proportional charge for any extra words. This regulation aims to ensure that authors adhere to the standard article length. The payment method will be notified in the acceptance letter. Published articles appear electronically and are freely available from the Journal of Liberty and International Affairs website.
