Abstract

The purpose of this work was to determine what role NATO plays in the policy of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the modern world. The research primarily examined the threats that come from weapons of mass destruction and how it affects global security. As for research methods, to get reliable information. The methods of policy analysis and document analysis were used to analyze and describe the challenges faced by NATO in the non-proliferation policy of weapons of mass destruction. In order to obtain reliable and objective information, a wide range of documents, strategies, and scientific papers were analyzed. The mentioned study showed us that NATO’s policy of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction faces many challenges and threats from aggressive states, terrorists, extremists, criminal groups, aggressive religious actors, and in the overall context, asymmetric and symmetric threats. The role of NATO is very important in the security policy of the alliance and the policy of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the world. NATO should be able to protect global security from weapons of mass destruction threats through pragmatic policy and dialogue.

Alika Guchua, Caucasus International University - Tbilisi, Georgia

Alika Guchua - Associate Professor, of International Relations and International Security, is a Ph.D. in Political Science, was born in 1990 in Zugdidi city, Georgia. 2010-2014, He studied at the Caucasus International University. In 2001 He graduated from the Caucasus International University, from the Faculty of Social Sciences, International Relations Program, and was awarded Bachelor's degree in International Relations.2015-2016, He studied at the Master's program of the University of Lodz in Poland, Faculty of Politics and Science.2015-2017 - He graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Caucasus International University and was awarded the academic degree of Master of International Relations.In 2018-2020 He did PhD in Political Sciences at Caucasus International University and defended his PhD thesis successfully. In 2020 He was awarded Doctor’s Degree in Political Sciences. Alika Guchua has extensive experience of working at various universities as a lecturer and teaching students various courses in Social Sciences. He has worked at the following universities as a lecturer and Professor of International Relations and International Security: Euroregional Teaching University, International Black Sea University and Georgian Technical University, Saint Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia. He has been teaching several undergraduate and graduate courses, Geopolitics, EU foreign policy, political culture, energy security, cyber security, geopolitics and geoeconomics, Black Sea regional security, politics-economy and society, terrorism and counter-terrorism.In 2018-2019 He held the position of International Relations, Strategic Research and Legal Analysis Center at Faculty of Law and State Management at the Euroregional Teaching University. Currently, Alika Guchua works at Caucasus International University. He is head of the Bachelor Program in International Relations, Faculty of Social Sciences, Caucasus International University (Georgia) and an Associate Professor of International Relations and International Security. Head of the Strategic Studies Institute for Research Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Threats (Georgia). Executive Director of the Institute of Geostrategy and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Georgia. Executive Director of Young Experts Association (Georgia). His research interests include weapons of mass destruction, conflict, terrorism, cyber terrorism, strategic strike weapons, asymmetric threats, armed conflicts, war studies, hybrid threats, NATO security policy, disarmament, non-proliferation, cybersecurity, nuclear security, and global security. So far, he has been engaged in many national projects and has participated in many international and domestic workshops and conferences. He has published so far 3 books and 40 scientific articles in different prestigious journals.
