Abstract

The upsurge of Covid-19 changed lifestyles and hit almost every sector. The tourism sector is one of the most affected sectors due to social distancing, ban on crowding, restrictions to visit public places, and grounded airplanes. The study proposed a shift to e-tourism until the Covid-19 get fully curbed. Therefore, this study aims to focus on the tourist’s experiences in Thailand during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study provides insight with the support of literature to help practitioners and researchers to understand, manage, and improve the tourism industry and induce technological transformation to curb the impact of the outbreak. The paper proposes a way to turn Covid-19 into a transformational opportunity. The study used Smart PLS software for analysis and data was collected from the tourist who had intentions to visit Thailand and the ones already in Thailand. The study fills the gap of the call for a transformation of e-tourism and explains the impact of the pandemic on the industry. The study presents the theoretical and practical implications to promote the tourism industry and the transformation of the technology in the Covid-19 pandemic.

I am working as visiting professor of business management at Phuket Rajabhat University. I have done PhD from University Utara Malaysia in the field of marketing. My core areas of expertise are branding, marketing techniques, customer behavior, selfie marketing, impacts of COVID-19, student behavior, before and after effects of Covid-19, tourism, and social media marketing. I have a strong grip over SPSS and Smart PLS for analysis and interpretations. Furthermore, I have 3 years of experience in the corporate sector as assistant manager operations, social media marketer internee, and awarded as second position holder from Suzuki Motors marketing competition at the national level.

Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar A. Hamid has chosen academy as his profession in 1992, from a lecturer and later rise to a Professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Management. He holds a BBA and an MBA from Northrop University (USA) and a Ph.D. from the University of Derby (UK, 2003) and is now attached with PUTRA Business School Malaysia. He has demonstrated an excellent record of teaching and supervision for more than 30 years in the academic field, both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Above all, his achievement in graduating more than 45 Ph.D. candidates proves his ability, capability, and passion in postgraduate and 21 Post Doctoral Research Fellowship supervisions. He has shown excellent records of impactful research and publications which directly has strengthened his expertise in the area of his interest. He managed to secure several competitive national grants and consultant for various projects and later profoundly published in more than 300 articles in competitive international journals, proceedings, books, and book chapters. Such commitment is truly an academic landmark.
